Technology-Based Creative Works

For this section, I'm submitting some examples of work I've created as an instructional designer and developer.

Remote Capture Training Website

Instructional Design, Web page and Course Development
Remote Capture is a tool that allows our financial advisors to scan paperwork and checks and submit them electronically. The use of this tool speeds up processing of account openings and decreases errors. This website was created to allow learners with different knowledge levels to locate the materials needed. Some had already been using Remote Capture and were adding the new "Scan Checks" function and some were unfamiliar with Remote Capture and just getting started using this tool. I was the instructional designer and developer for this course and participated in all stages from needs analysis through implementation. I designed and created the interface, tutorials and reference guide. I used Dreamweaver and JavaScript to create the landing page. The tutorials were created in Adobe Captivate.

Compliance Training (excerpt)

Instructional Design and Course Development
Financial advisors are required to complete specific continuing education courses each year. For this project, the Compliance department determined the topics to be presented and provided me with a draft of the content. I took this material and transformed it into a palatable format so advisors weren't just reading walls of text online.

This is an excerpt from one of the lessons that I republished to provide navigation tools that were not in the original version.  This course was about an hour long and we didn't have a learning management system at that time so I had to get creative to launch files that loaded quickly, gave advisors a chance to take a break, showed the progress through the course, and provided tracking of completion of the course. There was a front-end screen where advisors signed in to the course and a link to a Zoomerang survey at the end of the course with an attestation of completion. At the end of each lesson, advisors were given the choice of continuing to the next lesson or taking a break. I wasn't allowed to use cookies or write to advisors' computers so they had to keep the browser open if they took a break, which causes some "interesting" problems for our help desk. The course was created in Captivate.

Technology Navigator Demo

Instructional Design and Development
This is a demonstration of how to use the Technology Navigator, which is a wizard that was created to help advisors determine what technology tool to use. The demo was created in Captivate.

Overland Select Course

Instructional Design and Course Development
This course was created to help advisors learn about a new financial product. I was trying to get away from the PowerPoint bullets and narration/features and benefits of the product paradigm and create something a bit more engaging. Since we are a small shop and don't have access to a graphic designer I had to rely on clip art. By the time I got the course script through all the various approvals required I had forgotten there were different characters so my narrator provided all the "voices" and the group that owned the course decided to go with it instead of re-recording these parts because they thought it added an element of fun. The course was created in PowerPoint with the Adobe Breeze plug-in (now called Presenter).
